John Lewis

Senator John Lewis (ret.) is a native Californian; born in Los Angeles; raised in Orange County; a graduate of Placentia’s Valencia High School and the University of Southern California – FIGHT ON!

Bitten by the political bug early, John Lewis volunteered in his first presidential campaign at the age of 10, in 1964. In college he took a semester off to work in the 1976 Reagan for President campaign. Besides serving on the Campaign’s State Executive Committee, John Lewis was the second youngest delegate at the Kansas City convention.

After college, he successfully managed a State Assembly campaign that was called by the California Journal “the most shocking political upset of the 1978 election.”

In 1980 John Lewis won a hotly contested Republican nomination and went on to serve 11 years representing North East Orange County in the California State Assembly. In 1991, he defeated two Assembly colleagues and was elected to the California State Senate; where he served in until December 2000.

In the Legislature, he was known as a consistent voice and vote for free enterprise. Much of his legislation targeted regulatory overhaul in the Golden State. In the wake of the Orange County bankruptcy, working with the County’s point person William Popejoy, Lewis authored key bills which helped Orange County get back on its feet again.

Upon his legislative retirement in 2000, Lewis along with former business partner, Matt Holder, founded the Lewis Consulting Group.
